During our last few months living in Chiang Mai the Covid situation in Thailand escalated. As a result we were limited to traveling within the province of Chiang Mai. Lucky for us the province of Chiang Mai is over 40,000 square km so we had lots of options when it came to areas to explore.
If you are unfamiliar with Chiang Mai, it is situated in the mountains of Northern Thailand and is the city of Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand.
Below are three staycations in the province of Chiang Mai, each offering something different in terms of accommodation.
Baan Porhdoi Goidao
Baan Porhdoi Goidao is located in Chiang Dao . The accommodation comprises of three small huts surrounded by beautiful rice fields with stunning views of Doi Luang Chiang Dao. The rooms are bright and airy. There is a small coffee shop and restaurant serving Thai food. Baan Porhdoi Goidao is approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes from Chiang Mai.
Jamjai Camp and Cafe
Jamjai Camp and Cafe offers glamping style accommodation in the small town of Hot. We stayed in cute teepee tents on the river. Each tent comes with a private bathroom, air-conditioning and beautiful river views. For dinner you can preorder a traditional Thai style BBQ (mookaka) which will be served to you in your own private space along the river.
Chai Lai Orchid
A nature resort surrounded by elephants and tropical forests, Chai Lai Orchid is an great place to stay if you are looking for a staycation outside of Chiang Mai. The resort places a huge emphasis on ethics. All of the elephants at the resort have been rescued from abusive situations. The resort has a strict no riding policy. We stayed in one of their beautiful wooden huts and the view are breathtaking. The resort serves delicious local Thai dishes and has a wide selection of beverages too.
